Who is allowed to participate?
Any middle or high school student in Southern Utah. Teachers must register for their school to participate. They can do so here.
What do we need to bring?
All materials will be provided. Bring your students, and a lunch or snack since we will be working through lunch time.
You may also bring printed source materials, but please remember that your work needs to be original.
What materials will be provided?
We will provide these mediums:
acrylic paint
watercolor
oil pastels
markers (sharpies & copic)
colored pencils
crayons
pencils
As well as the appropriate brushes, boards, paper and such. We will be working on 9x12 size surfaces.
Can I bring my own materials?
Yes, but we will have more than enough for everyone. So we don’t recommend it unless you really want to.
How will the artwork be judged?
We are inviting a professional artist to come and judge the work. The works will be judged based on:
Technical skill
Demonstrates strong skill with the media; technically
accomplished.
Creativity
Exhibits distinct experimentation and innovation to
enhance creative concepts *Use of strong metaphor,
personal meaning and/or elaborate or complex visual
responses
Interpretation of topic/originality
Excellent interpretation and communication of thematic
concepts
How are we dealing with copyright issues?
Pop Art is often in trouble because of copyright laws. We understand that Fair Use is an important part of Pop Art, but we do not have the means or desire to potentially end up in court. Please be sure that all of you work is original, and that you are not using any copyrighted name brands in your art. Any artwork using copyrighted materials will not be eligible to win.
